Monk And Wish-fulfilling Tree

An itinerant monk has been searching for peace, he has travelled to the Himalayas, to caves and forests, to holy places, ashramas, and monasteries. Once he said to an old monk- "Swami ji, i left home, abandoned my family and friends, and renounced all my possesions, still i have not achieved anything tangible. Even now i feel restless."

The old monk replied- "My son, you have come under the wish-fulfilling tree . Many fruits are hanging on that tree. One day some will definately fall, you will get them if you stay under the tree. But if you want those fruits right now, please shake the tree- shake the tree." By this the itinerant monk understood that possesing the fruits or liberation possible only through intense efforts.
