Second decade of Kashmiri Hindus exile marked in New Delhi

Gadkhari says, autonomy report dangerous, BJP will oppose it 'tooth and nail' and ensure Kashmiri Hindus safety.

Kashmiri Hindus must be returned with safety and honour to their home in the valley. This must be the primary duty of the Government. Thundered Mr. Nitin Gadkhari at a solemn function to mark the two decade forced exile of Kashmiri Hindus. The function was organised by Syama Prasad Mukherjee Research Foundation, a nationalistic think tank. While responding to build an emotional expressway between Srinagar and New Delhi, he promised safety and return of Kashmiri Hindus return with honour and dignity. Commending Mr. Jagmohan, he acclaimed his tenure as the 'golden age'. To a self posed question, he answered that, human Rights are independent of religion and ethnicity. He termed greater autonomy report as pernicious and the BJP will oppose it 'tooth and nail'. The same was organised to express the solidarity to the five lakh, forcefully exiled Kashmiri Hindus from their homes and hearth in early 1990s. The controversial Justice Sagir Ahmed committee report on granting greater autonomy to Kashmir was also deliberated. Mr. Jagmohan cautioned that, granting greater autonomy would set a bad precedent in reference to 'troubled state'. Madhu Kishwar and Thupstan Chhewang and demanded that any composite dialogue between New Delhi and Kashmir must involve both Kashmiri Hindus and Ladakhi population. Mr. Bal Apte regretted that human Rights institutions were showing double standard towards 'Kashmiri Hindus'.

The Program was presided by Mr. Nitin Gadkhari, Mr. Jagmohan, former Governor of Jammu and Kashmir and Mr. Thupstan Chhewang, former M.P and patron and president of Ladakh Union Territory Front. The galaxy of august invitees included Madhu Kishwar, editor Manushi, Prerana Kaul Mishra, deputy editor, Economic Times online, Mr. Moti Kaul, President All India Kashmiri Samaj, Mr. Bal Apte, Dr. Harshvardhan, Mr. Tarun Vijay, the President, Secretary and Director of Syama Prasad Mookerjee Research Foundation respectively and other office bearers of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh.

The success of the program was evident from, all the Delhi based Kashmiri Hindu organisations calling off independent commemorative programs to join hands with Syama Prasad Mukherjee Research Foundation to mark the two decade exile of Kashmiri Pundits. The following Kashmiri Hindu organisations for the first time in history joined hands together to spouse the aspirations of Kashmiri Hindus: Ponnu Kashmir, Roots in Kashmir, Jammu Kashmir Vichar Manch, Kashmir Samiti, Delhi and All India Kashmiri Samaj.

Robert S Fernandes : Empowering tips from Louise Hay

The work of Louise Hay has transformed the lives of millions.
Here are some empowering tips from her philosophy for YOUR life!

1. Be willing to love and accept yourself - no matter what!
You don't need to lose the weight, have the relationship, or
anything else first. Start NOW.

2. Pay attention to your thoughts. If your thoughts create your
future (and we believe they do!) - are your "typical" thoughts
during the day the ones you really want to be thinking? You have
the power to change them in a moment.

3. Learn to create and use powerful affirmations to focus on
what you DO want in your life. (More on affirmations. )

4. Nurture your Inner Child. Talk to him/her with encouraging
words and positive messages.

5. Be willing to change. Our ego tends to hang on to "the way
things are." Trust yourself and Spirit as you change.

6. Meditate on a regular basis. This will help you listen to your
inner guidance.

7. Listen to your body's messages. They will give you vital clues
about the emotions affecting you.

8. Honor your emotions, but don't get stuck in them. Release
anger, resentment, and guilt.

9. Forgive the past and free yourself from bondage.

10. Stop critcizing and judging yourself. You are doing the best you can!

The key : Love yourself for the unique and magnificent being
you are.

Vande Mataram and Shashi Tharur

1.

Shashi Tharoor should apologise for his statement on Vande Mataram

Posted by: "S. Kalyanaraman" kalyan97@gmail.com   kalyan97

Mon Jan 18, 2010 10:04 am (PST)

*P Parameswaran* sent a letter to *Shashi Tharoor* on *17-11-2009* . Portions
of it are worth quoting in the larger public and national interests:

тАШ*Respected Shashi Tharoor,*Namaskar

тАШMathrubhumiтАЩ the popular Malayalam daily dated 16-11-2009, carried
prominently a news item with the title тАШVande Matharam need not be sungтАЩ. It
was part of the speech, which you delivered at a gathering in the premises
of the CSI church, Palayam, Thiruvananthapuram. You are reported to have
stated that singing of Vande Matharam is purely a matter of personal choice,
left to the sweet will and pleasure of the person concerned. At first I was
literally shocked and could hardly believe that the MP representing this
enlightened capital city of Kerala could have made such a statement. I made
enquires and got confirmed that it was a verbatim report of the speech you
made at the church premises. I am also told that it was a *suo motto* statement
without any provocation or to clarify any point and therefore quiet
unwarranted. It has no justification what so ever.

Our constitution is very clear on the point that Vande Matharam is our
National song having equal status with our National Anthem. Therefore it
goes without saying that every citizen is supposed to pay due respect by
singing it without any reservation.

I understand that of late there have been some negative voices regarding
singing Vande Matharam among some communal circles. But that is not a
justification for a Congress MP and a Central Minister to come out with a
public statement endorsing such sentiments, which lowers the status and
dignity of Vande Matharam. On the other hand I sincerely feel that it was
your duty to create a congenial atmosphere in favour of Vande Matharam by
using your good will and also your authority. You have done just the
opposite.

*Any student of IndiaтАШs freedom movement knows pretty well the historic role
played by Vande Matharam. In the year 1905, Lord Curson, the then Viceroy of
India, made a declaration partitioning Bengal into West Bengal and East
Bengal, basically on communal (Hindu and Muslim )consideration. The entire
Bengal rose up against the partition. There was an upsurge of nationalist
feeling, which engulfed, not only Bengal, but the whole of India . It was
the song Vande Matharam, publicly led by great men like Ravindra Natha
Tagore which inspired the people to fight against the colonial dictate. Many
of them laid down their lives singing this patriotic song. Ultimately the
haughty Viceroy had to eat the humble pie and withdraw the declaration of
partition. тАж*тАЩ

After freedom and adoption of the Constitution of the Republic of India ,
which gave equal status to both Janaganamana and Vande Matharam, the demand
now is being made from religious obscurantists to give up the great song ,
which expresses the spirit and soul of Bharat *in toto*. I am sure, any sign
of weakness and any further compromise on this is bound to lead, to further
weakening of the national fabric and accentuate dangerous divisive forces.
It will be suicidal for India.

It is against this historical background, that I make bold to say that your
public statement on Vande Matharam is nothing short of denigrating this
symbol of nationalism and also questioning the validity of the relevant
constitutional provision. As a Central minister, who has taken the oath
promising to defend the constitution of the country, it is my firm view that
you have acted against the spirit of the constitution and your own solemn
oath. тАж

*I WISH AND HOPE THAT YOU WILL MAKE A PUBLIC STATEMENT EXPRESSING YOUR
REGRETS FOR THIS UNWARRANTED AND OBJECTIONABLE STATEMENT.тАЩ

**The Union Minister has not even bothered to send a reply to Parameswaran,
one of the senior most and respected Hindu leaders in Kerala today. *Taking
note of this attitude of this Union Minister,*Parameswa ran* wrote a letter
to the Prime Minister of India on *10 December 2009* *inviting his attention
to the conduct of Shashi Tharoor.* I am quoting below the relevant excerpts
from this letter:

тАЩ*This is to invite your kind attention to a serious lapse, bordering on the
violation of the ministerial oath, taken by Shri. Shasi Tharoor, Hon ble
Minister for State, External Affairs, in a public speech organized by the
Church of South India, Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala on 15/11/2009. The HonтАШble
Minister made a suo motto statement. тАШтАж The national song, like the national
sport, is optional. Sing it out of respect for the mother land. Do not sing
it if you do not want to. No one forces youтАЩ (Times of India). Such a
statement is derogatory and denigrating Vande Mataram which has been
accorded equal status with тАШJanaganamanaтАЩ, our National Anthem.*тАЭ

As a *post script* (*PS*) his letter to the *PM*, *Parameswaran* also added
that: тАШ*It is extremely regrettable, and throws very bad light on the
minister, that even though I had written a personal letter (copy enclosed)
to him about the matter on 17/11/2009, he has not yet shown the elementary
courtesy of even acknowledging the same. A member of Parliament is expected
to behave better and be more responsible to public institutions and
personalities. *тАЩ

Are you going to consume the poisonous Bt Brinjal?

Are you going to consume the poisonous Bt Brinjal?

Do you know that the toxic Bt Brinjal (a genetically engineered food
crop) has been approved by the regulatory authority the Genetic
Engineering Approval Committee (GEAC)? Do you know that in another
three months or so the Government of India too may approve it? And
then this highly toxic vegetable will be on your plate, ready to be
eaten!

What is Bt Brinjal?

What is Bt Brinjal? Why is it toxic? Why are concerned citizen from
the world over protesting against it? Why are countries unwilling to
deal with such crop? Majority of countries around the world have not
allowed it.

Bt Brinjal is a Genetically Engineered (GE) crop which has been
engineered at the genetic level. A toxin producing gene from the soil
bacterium Bacillus Thuringiensis (Bt) has been inserted into the
genome of the plant.  This is to make the entire plant, including the
fruit, toxic so that a pest called fruit and stem borer dies on
consuming the plant.

The brinjal plant is now toxic for the pest. Is it toxic for the human
beings who consume it? You will be alarmed to know that the GE
vegetable could be highly toxic for both animals and humans.  Another
crop with the same technology is now being cultivated in many parts of
India and that is Bt Cotton. It is being illegally cultivated in
Orissa even though the Government of Orissa has not yet given
permission for Bt Cotton cultivation.

Animal Deaths

All over India in cotton growing areas domestic animals like goat,
sheep, cows and buffaloes have fallen sick or died after grazing on Bt
Cotton fields. It is not a food crop but yet farmers and mill-workers
who have come in contact with the crop have developed severe
allergies, skin rashes, difficulty in breathing, red burning and
itching eyes etc., as per reports from the states.

Bt Brinjal is a food crop whose seeds are manufactured using the same
process as in Bt Cotton. Its seeds are being promoted for approval by
the company which has manufactured them. However the company's own
safety data and report have been scrutinized by independent scientists
who have declared on the basis of the information perused that Bt
Brinjal is unsafe for human consumption.

The study team led by Prof. Gilles-Eric Séralini of Committee for
Independent Research and Information on Genetic Engineering (CRIIGEN),
France concluded that Bt brinjal release into the environment, for
food, feed or cultures, may present a serious risk for human and
animal health and the release should be forbidden.

Laboratory studies

Laboratory studies upon rats and mice conducted by independent
scientists have proved that animals after eating GE food have come
down with serious illnesses. The immune system is affected, there has
been stunted growth, change in size of internal organs, ulcers in
stomach, infertility etc.

The brinjal in Orissa

The inevitable risk of contamination will threaten the 100 or more
brinjal varieties in Orissa. In the state people consume a lot of the
vegetable relished in various cooking methods. It is consumed almost
daily. In land under vegetable cultivation in Orissa brinjal commands
the highest 22% share showing the popularity of the crop. It is
cultivated in all districts of the state the major districts being
Keonjhar, Kalahandi and Mayurbhanj. In India the brinjal has a 4000
year old history and some varieties are used by ayurvedic
practitioners as medicine. Allowing commercial cultivation of Brinjal
will irreversibly damage the biodiversity of the crop and make all
brinjal toxic.

Do alternatives exist?

The brinjal is being made toxic to kill a pest. Are there not safer
alternatives? In Orissa the OUAT Department of Entomology has informed
through RTI that a combination of chemical and bio-pesticides called
Integrated Pest Management is able to kill the fruit and stem borer.
This is a far better alternative than Bt Brinjal.

What the experts say

Experts like Dr Pushpa M Bhargava, Founder and Former Director, Centre
for Cellular and Molecular Biology have demanded that long term
feeding studies are required. He wants ten years of testing on mice to
assess the harm done across generations. He has also rightly pointed
out that GE seeds should be considered as an option only if there are
no other alternatives.

If the Indian government approves it, Bt Brinjal will become the first
genetically engineered popular food crop to be commercially released
anywhere in the world with the toxic Bt gene in it and that too in a
country which is the centre of origin of brinjal.

THREE
The Legislative Assembly of Uttarakhand state (Bharat) has set an example for other states in the country by declaring Sanskrit as second official language. The Rajbhasha Vidheyak (Official Language Bill) was introduced in the Assembly to make Sanskrit as second official language as people of the State have keen interest in the language. They tend to use Sanskrit on special auspicious occasions with extreme regards. There are primary, intermediate, graduate and postgraduate Sanskrit medium schools and colleges also in the State which contribute to spread and learning of Sanskrit. Former RSS Sarsanghachalak Shri KS Sudarshan and many Sanskrit scholars felicitated Chief Minister Dr Ramesh Pokharial `Nishank' in Haridwar for this courageous step. Shri Sudarshan described it a historical and commendable decision. It is a great irony that in India, 18 states have made Urdu their second official language under the appeasement policy, but the Uttarakhand government took the right decision by declaring Sanskrit the second official language, he said.

Shri Prasad is an auto driver based in West Mambalam, Chennai (Tamilnadu, Bharat). On Decemeber 17, he drove a passenger to T.nagar. While alighting, the passenger left behind a bag containing Rs. 35,000. When, later, Prasad noticed the bag, he handed it over to the Ashok Nagar police station. Even while the police were looking for the owner of the bag, one Shankarlal, an employee of a jewller' shop in T.Nagar, lodged a complaint with the Ashok Nagar police station stating that he had left behind the cash bag in an auto. On cofirming that he is the owner of the money, the police handed him the bag. Officials appreciated prasad for his honesty.www.tutyonline.com/news/view/2/3395/1261185060.shtml ; December 18, 2009. Come and visit Thennur village near Trichy, Tamlnadu (Bharat). Here is a man, Senthil by name, who was earning Rs 2 lakhs per month 5 years ago in the US. One of his ambitions, from the time he was studying in school, is to serve his village. Hence, after earning some money for his parents, he resigned his job in the US and came to his village in order to support the village. He is just 36 years old now, which means he resigned his job when he was 31! He is also called as `Ilam Gandhi' (Young Gandhi). After resigning his job, he invested Rs 40 lakhs in Thennur to build a community health center and an informal learning center.Out of the Rs 40 lakhs Rs 31 lakhs came out of his own pocket. He started an NGO called `Payir' (plant) to help this village. He has created a small IT company at the village. This company has 4 employees as of now, who are all graduates from the village. They have a US client and are currently working on a $ 2500 project. Payir trust provides him with daily food. The trustees have agreed on this. He has built a hut for himself using his past earnings. So shelter is not a problem. He has 3 sets of shirts and Veshti (Dhoti). which he says, he can use for the next 2 years. Asked how he will manage in his old age, if he gets any disease, he coolly replied that he will go to a Govt. hospital where everything is free of cost. Thennur is a proof of the change that youth can bring in our country.

Subhas Chandra Bose: A hero forgotten by the nation

Netaji and his INA played a crucial role in the British decision to
quit India, says Sujit Sankar Chattopadhyay...

It is well known that Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose did not get a good
Press
till recently from any of the important political parties in his time.
The Congress naturally disapproved of his open defiance of MK Gandhi
in
the Tripuri election; the Communists were hardly expected to praise
anyone who sought the aid of Axis powers for attaining India's freedom
through military operations. (They have since revised their opinion,
though.) There was a tendency even among the general readers of
history
to brush aside his military adventure as a romantic exercise in
futility.

The only piece of documentary evidence which seems to
highlight the importance of Bose's military operation with the help of
the Japanese Army comes from a letter written by PB Chuckraborty, the
then Chief Justice of the Calcutta High Court, who had met Clement
Attlee at a tea party in 1956 in Kolkata when the latter had visited
India and asked him about the role of Bose and his INA in the transfer
of power.

The following is an extract from his letter to a
friend dated March 30, 1976 (as reported in a blog, Friends of India,
on August 13, 2007):

"When I was acting as Governor of West
Bengal in 1956, Lord Clement Attlee who as the British Prime Minister
in post-War years was responsible for India's freedom, visited India
and stayed in Raj Bhavan, Calcutta, for two days and I put it straight
to him like this: 'The Quit India Movement of Gandhi practically died
out long before 1947 and there was nothing in the Indian situation at
that time, which made it necessary for the British to leave India in a
hurry. Why then did they do so?'

"In reply, Attlee cited several reasons, the most important of which
were the INA activities of Netaji
Subhas Chandra Bose, which weakened the very foundation of the British
Empire in India, and the RIN mutiny which made the British realise
that
the Indian armed forces could no longer be trusted to prop up the
British. When asked about the extent to which the British decision to
quit India was influenced by Mahatma Gandhi's 1942 movement, Attlee's
lips widened in a smile of disdain and he uttered, slowly, 'Minimal'."

For a long time this was the sole evidence of the most important
decision-maker in the transfer of power about the important role
played
by Bose. I want to draw the attention of the readers of The Pioneer
to circumstantial evidence in support of this document which was
furnished by the eminent historian, Prof Barun De, in an article
published in The Telegraph, Kolkata. I met Prof De on January
18 and again he confirmed the incident, although he could not recount
the exact date. The incident is as follows:

One morning, while studying at Oxford University, Prof De and his
friend Kamal Hasan had
gone for breakfast at Nuffield Hall where they chanced upon old Earl
Attlee. Prof De and his friend went up to him, introduced themselves
and put the question raised in the letter of PB Chuckraborty, about
the
crucial role of Bose and his INA in hastening the independence of
India
by completely shaking the confidence of the British Government in the
loyalty of Indian troops. Attlee confirmed the statement he had
purportedly made earlier and also his assessment of the relatively
unimportant role of Gandhi's movement on the transfer of power.

Prof De's brief article in The Telegraph is very important because
this is a confirmation in writing by a
leading historian of the Left about the assessment of the then British
Prime Minister on the role of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, the
forgotten
national hero whose birth anniversary is observed on January 23, in
hastening India's independence.
